June Meeting: Literary Magazines

SpeakerJulieWakemanGuest speaker Julie Wakeman-Linn (standing) spoke to MWA, Charles County Chapter members June 18 about how to make the most of submitting writing works to literary magazines.

Wakeman-Linn, a Montgomery College professor and editor-in-chief of “Potomac Review,” publishes the magazine twice a year. She provided invaluable information such as a wiki web site that explains different rejection letters submitters may receive from literary magazine editors. She also recommended that writers read submission requirements carefully and follow the rules meticulously.

Finally, Wakeman-Linn said literary magazine submissions can sometimes lead to book deals since agents and publishing houses often look at literary magazines for new writing talent.
