Since the recent release of her new book, “Uncle Tom’s Journey from Maryland to Canada,” which traces the life of Abolitionist Josiah Henson from his birthplace in La Plata to worldwide fame in Canada, Novelist Edna Troiano has been making news with her account of Henson’s role in bringing slaves to freedom via the Underground Railroad.  Josiah Henson was one of the inspirations for Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom in her famous novel “Uncle Tom’s Cabin.”

A retired professor who chaired the Department of Languages and Literature for 20 years at the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) and a former MWA Charles County Chapter President,  Troiano will talk about the research it took to uncover the truth and bring to Josiah Henson to life again.

The Charles County Chapter of the Maryland Writers’ Association meets at 7pm on the third Wednesday of every month (except August and December) at the Christ Church in La Plata.
